Red Velvet Cake
Red Velvet Cake is a rich, fluffy, and exceptional red cake with an aroma of chocolate, topped with cream cheese frosting. Here is the recipe.
Ingredients for the Red Velvet Cake
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 2 egg yolks
- 2 teaspoon red food colour
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 cup butter-milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup cocoa powder
Frosting for the Red Velvet Cake
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups powder sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Heat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease three 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pans with flour.
- In a medium bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a big mixing bowl, whisk the butter with an electric mixer until smooth. Add the eggs one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition.
- Firstly, beat the sugar and butter. Otherwise, it will form a crusty layer on top.
- Gradually add dry ingredients into the butter mixture. Beat only until combined.
- Mix vanilla extract and cocoa powder.
- Mix vinegar, butter milk and red food colour. Add this mixture shortly before pouring into the moulds.
- Spread the batter evenly among the prepared pans, flat the tops.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until inserted toothpick in the centre comes out clean. Allow to cool for 10 minutes in pans before shifting to a wire rack to finish setting.
- For the frosting, blend the cream cheese and butter, mix until smooth. Gradually add the powder sugar, blend until well combined. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- After the cakes have completely cool down place one layer on a serving platter and pour a thick layer of frosting on top. Repeat for the remaining layers.
- Frost the outside of the cake with the leftover icing.
